Video and Info - Hudson Teases Bomberman Touch for the iPhone and iPod touch
    Sally B.  | Published: Fri Jul 04 23:29:25 EDT 2008
Hudson's iconic mascot Bomberman has landed the mobile scene early this year, but that doesn't stop this explosive little guy from having another adventure, this time exclusively for the iPhone. Titled Bomberman Touch: The Legend of the Mystic Bomb, the new game is definitely catered for the tactile handset, and will make full use of the phone's touchscreen and accelerometer.

According to the teaser site that Hudson put up to promote the new Bomberman title, The Legend of the Mystic Bomb will let players flick and tap to place bombs, and roll certain special weapons around via the accelerometer.

The game will be set in the ruins of the ancient Ka-Boom Temple, which is said to hold a legendary treasure that many have sought for but failed. As Bomberman, it's the player's task to challenge these ruins, and encounter several stages that have their own set of surprises (such as devices, traps, etc).

Thankfully, the video below shows that these grandspankin' new game elements won't hurt the original, basic gameplay - the old powerups are there, mixed with the new special items. The embed below may be short, but it sure does look fun at this point. Go check it out right now:

VideosTone v1.2 - option to enable video ringtones to select contacts now out
    Sally B.  | Published: Fri Jul 04 22:09:24 EDT 2008
VideosTone - Image 1And hot on the heels of Skrew's vWallpaper homebrew app is yet another iPhone goodie that allows you to set your videos as ringtones. The more, the merrier, right? Choices are always a good thing, after all.

iPhone users who want a bit more bling to the mundane yet important ringing functions of their Apple handsets may want to check out iFoneTec's new VideosTone application. The latest version of VideosTone allows the use of videos as ringtones, as well as enabling video ringtones to only select contacts, which was once a paid feature in the app's previous release.

Activating VideosTone to select contacts works like this: just go to the app's Personalize Setting and go to Select a Person field; from there you can select a phone number from your chosen contact, and choose the video ringtone of your preference.

There's a slight drawback to the program, however: if you get tired of your video ringtones, in order to disable them you have to remember which contacts and phone numbers in your phone are using them.

For example: to disable a videotone you need to pull the contact up from the Select a Person form, select the particular number that triggers the annoying video, then choose Delete this Contact's VideosTone. It's quite a tedious process indeed, and judging by some of the user comments this is not the only inconvenience that you may encounter when using it.

If you are interested in getting video ringtones for your iPhone, then just add http://app.ifonetec.com to your iPhone's installer.app repository and search for VideosTone there. Enjoy!

TUAW Certification Series: Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server
Steven Sande  | Published: Fri Jul 04 19:30:00 EDT 2008

Apple Certified Technical CoordinatorLast month, I wrote a post about Apple certifications in general. Today, I'll focus on Mac OS X certifications.

If you're a Mac geek who wants to make a living troubleshooting Macs, these are the certifications to get because they are your ticket to becoming a member of the Apple Consultants Network (ACN). ACNs can build a relationship with their local Apple store and get references for work that can't be performed by Genius Bar techs, and they're listed on the Apple Consultants Network website. The rest of this article is after the break.

TUAW blogger Steve Sande is an Apple Certified Technical Coordinator and volunteers as the South Central US Regional Champion for the Apple Consultants Network.

Apple on how to replace an original iPhone with a new 3G iPhone
Mat Lu  | Published: Fri Jul 04 18:30:00 EDT 2008

    Filed under:

Apple has posted a Support Document that explains exactly how to replace your original iPhone with a new 3G iPhone. Basically there are two tracks: 1) In the US you don't need your original SIM as your original "account information will be transferred to iPhone 3G's included SIM when you purchase iPhone 3G." 2) Outside the US, "you can use your original iPhone's SIM with iPhone 3G."

Once that's done it's just a matter of backing up your original iPhone to iTunes 7.7 and then restoring that backup to the new iPhone 3G. This should transfer all your saved SMS messages as well as email accounts, notes, etc. Once that's done you just need to erase the old iPhone with the new secure erase option.

Tap Tap Revolution to be sold by Tapulous, called Tap Tap Revenge
Mike Schramm  | Published: Fri Jul 04 17:30:00 EDT 2008

Nate True, iPhone developer extraordinaire and friend of TUAW (but who isn't, really), has sold off his Tap Tap Revolution game to a company called Tapulous, and they're renaming it Tap Tap Revenge and are going to try selling it in the iPhone's (and iPod touch's) App Store. The game isn't much tweaked from its jailbroken incarnation, but there is a chaotic two-player mode, seen above, that could be a lot of fun. I've never played the original version, so I have no idea what's up with the shaking, but it looks like it incorporates some accelerometer fun as well.

If you're a super TTR fan, Tapulous tells us that they've got a wallpaper to download on their site right now, and that more videos will be coming out over the weekend, so stay tuned. All these games are looking terrific, but of course the one thing we haven't heard confirmed from any of them is when and if they'll be showing up on the App Store. That, it seems, is up to Apple. It doesn't matter how many games you've got ready to go -- if Apple doesn't have them set for download right away, both the devs and iPhone owners will miss a nice opportunity.

Apple Gazette Giveaway! Win a Mophie Juice Pack!
    Michael  | Published: Thu Jul 03 12:30:24 EDT 2008

I recently had a chance to review the Mophie Juice Pack, and I really, really like it. I liked it so much in fact, that I asked if I could give one away on the site to help celebrate the 300th episode of Apple Gazette Daily - and Mophie said yes.

The full review of the Juice Pack will be online either later today or early next week.

I do have one bit of bad news, though. The contest is limited to North America only. I know…that sucks for all of you located in other parts of the world. I will happily do a contest that includes everyone BUT North America if I can find a company willing to do it - but for now, this one has to be limited to North America only.

I just wanted to give you a heads up about the giveaway. You can find full details in the 300th episode of Apple Gazette Daily which will be posted on July 4th.

Those of you who don’t or can’t listen to the show can simply send me an email with your contact information with the word “juicepack” in the subject - if it doesn’t come to me that way, then it won’t get into the right inbox and you won’t be in the giveaway.

I will select one winner at random next week, and will announce it on the site.

    Good luck!
